~~~ NOTE FROM CHRIS: ~~~
Hold the press! We've got a breaking story!
Just as we're patting ourselves on the back over
TopFive having lasted 10 years, our archive
librarian, Ms. Prifogle, uncovered a batch of
lists even *older* than that. Unbelievable!
Here's an example. This is a list we first
published TWENTY-FIVE years ago, in 1979...
The Top 16 Reasons We Love Disco
- Disco dancing leads to casual sex -- and that's *never* going away, man.
- Nothin' gets the body movin' and groovin' like flutes and violins, baby.
- Where else do they actually encourage you to "Freak Out"?
- Because polyester clothing has a longer half-life than plutonium.
- John Travolta will never get fat with this as a workout!
- If you crank up the Bee Gees as you pull into the driveway, Barry Gibb's falsetto will summon your cocker spaniel.
- When rock and roll dies, we'll all look like geniuses!
- Platform shoes double as footwear and supports for homemade bookshelves.
- It drowns out all the cocaine-fueled babbling.
- What could possibly be cooler than navigating a moving sea of polyester-clad white guys shaking their groove things?
- Eight-track player, Bee Gees cartridge, Gremlin. Do the math, ladies.
- Because they hate it in evil countries like the Soviet Union but love it in friendly countries like Iraq.
- Long wavy hair, unbuttoned blouses, skin-tight pants and high-heeled shoes. I mean, do men get *any* sexier?
- If it can make Liza Minnelli cool, think what it can do for the rest of us!
- Because now people appreciate what I've always known: Beethoven and the boogie were made for each other.
and the Number 1 Reason We Love Disco...
- Because if we stop dancing, the Ayatollah will have won.
